There is NO shame in GRIEF & LOSS

Though grief is normal and natural, most of us have never felt comfortable with it, we stuff the feelings, attempt to work through it, and eventually just simply feel we have no choice but to live with it. That is not true, you have a solution - New Dawn.

What is the purpose of New Dawn?

To help each participant grieve and complete their relationship to the pain and unfinished business caused by a death, divorce or any other significant emotional loss.

When is it time to do my "grief work?" This is the most difficult question facing grievers. Part of the problem stems from the biggest single inaccurate idea that we were all socialized to believe: that "time heals all wounds." Time does not heal. Actions can help discover and complete unfinished emotional business. When can I begin to discover and complete all of the things that I wish had ended "different, better or more," and all of the broken "hopes, dreams, and expectations" about the future? The answer is immediately. Waiting to do grief work is potentially dangerous.

How does The Grief Recovery Method® differ from therapy? Since there are so many different types of therapies it’s difficult to give a singular answer. Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss; grief is not, of itself, a pathological condition nor a personality disorder. The Grief Recovery Method® is primarily an educational, or re-educational experience, based on the fact that most of us were never taught effective tools for dealing with grief. Most participants find that their subsequent therapy is enhanced by their experience in the workshop. In fact, many therapists refer clients to the groups and workshops.

What is the difference between New Dawn and other loss and grief programs? Many grief groups provide an environment for people to verbalize the thoughts and feelings they experience following a loss. While there is benefit to that kind of expression, often it is not enough. Generally it will have a short-term benefit and not address the underlying issues of "incomplete emotional" communications that sustain unresolved grief. The Grief Recovery Method® used in the New Dawn workshop addresses the incompleteness so that there is long-term benefit, completing the pain and the unfinished emotions.

Enrollment is limited to 25 people per workshop.

Tell me about New Dawn.

These groups provide a powerful and dynamic experience through the use of The Grief Recovery Method®, which is the most productive method being offered anywhere on people’s reaction to loss. The workshops provide the most sensible, accessible and authentic plan available for recovery from loss. For anyone who is grieving, the New Dawn workshops offer grief tools that work for any kind of serious loss. They include educational and experiential sessions dealing with Concepts of Grief, Concepts of Recovery, How Incomplete Loss Occurs, Grief Recovery Principles, Identifying Incomplete Losses, and Moving Beyond Loss.

The holidays, or anniversaries of an incident, are often times when grief shows up. It reminds us of who or what is missing from our lives. For some the loss of a job can remind us of what we cannot do for the holiday, others consider how their health has changed and now they are unable to do things they used to do, there might be a person missing or a miscarriage which would have brought a new child to the gathering, and a relationship that has ended, each of these can trigger emotions especially during the holiday season.

New Dawn seeks to be a safe place for those who are hurting to work through their grief, move beyond the pain caused by loss, and give them tools to be able enjoy every holiday and celebration to come.

The workshop is a 7 week process which meets via conference call (webinar if needed) for 90 minutes per week and is led by Sidney Gaskins, who completed the workshop following the death of her mother, has since become a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, and lead the first Grief Recovery Workshop in Cleveland, Ohio.
